We would like to present Educational portal Telmae and selected activities (i.e. online courses, seminars), developed at the Laboratory of Distance Education, Charles University Prague, that have been offered to science teachers and educators in the Czech Republic since 2000.
All these activities are offered through Educational Portal TELMAE, which consists of teachers’ online supportive environment, open edited databases of educational sources, online journal and so called gate to online courses. Important statistical data, experience, sustainability and internationalization are further discussed and partially compared to similar activities offered to analogous target group by different European and North American Universities. The main problems and obstacles for larger (and international) use of educational portals for teachers professional development are discussed at the end of the paper.
