In these last years we have been in charge of the organization of the training for young teachers of physics, maths and computer science. We have designed and tested a two -year course and a monitoring system. The aim of the training is to develop one’s abilities in managing teaching processes and acquiring the awareness of the teacher’s role. To reach this aim it is necessary to develop skills of process observation, actions in context and reflection based on collected data. The training is organized in four different sections:

  • activities for trainee young teachers
  • meetings with host schools and tutoring teachers
  • training activities
  • monitoring activities

The main focus of our project is based on the monitoring activities which help students to develop the reflection and so change the training experience into a professional ability.Practically speaking the students have been asked to produce a collection of materials (notes, files, planned teaching lessons, reports, feedbacks, etc.) that we have called the diary of the training experience. In realizing this diary the students focus on the main objective of their individual training, give shape to the process, improve their reflection skills. This instrument has been used in different ways according to the individual educational needs.

During this two - year course we have also carried out a monitoring activity of our work as supervisors using some questionnaires addressed to the students and the host teachers. These questionnaires have allowed us to follow the development of the experimentation and then proceed with a research project on the role of the training in the initial professional training of teachers of scientific subjects.
