It was observed that often teachers, although they accept new ideas and new teaching styles, have some troubles in translating them into everyday practice, if they act singly. They feel the need of direct examples about other teachers’ activity, in order to identify with them, recognise their own troubles, and consider how what proposed can be carried out. In order to make an exchange among peers available to point out the effective problems arising in the implementation of a vertical curriculum, and accept and share good practice common solutions, a plan dealing with physics teaching has been developed. Some primary and secondary schools located in the same territory take part in this plan. We describe the ways to carry out this plan, based on co-operative survey, shared consideration, self-evaluation, and periodical common reports. Co-ordination characteristics and functions by the leaders of subgroups taking part in the plan and acting as facilitators have proved to be sensible elements in the development of the activity. During three years of common work, the plan has been progressively structured. Starting from a definition in the field of single subjects’ needs, cares, expectations, the plan has gradually been focussing on a programme prevailingly oriented to practice and related to more and more definite characteristics of the curriculum. As the plan is essentially qualitative and the various actors are directly involved in the problems we have examined, its results are observed in terms of the accountability level achieved in its successive stages. |
